Hispanic educators play a critical role in shaping students’ futures, particularly at iQ Academy California, where a large number of the student population identifies as Hispanic. iQ’s Hispanic educators become role models for the students. These educators create an inclusive, supportive environment where students feel seen and understood. Juliette Pinzon is the middle school principal whose journey of overcoming language barriers inspires many.

Juliette’s Story: From ELD Student to Principal

Juliette Pinzon is the middle school principal at iQ Academy and knows firsthand the challenges of navigating a new language in school. She started her educational journey as an English Language Development (ELD) student, speaking only Spanish. The early years were difficult as she faced the task of learning English in an environment where it was the dominant language. But through perseverance and the support of her teachers, she mastered the language and began to thrive academically.

As principal, Juliette creates a learning environment where all students feel empowered to succeed while celebrating their heritage. She understands the unique difficulties that non-native English speakers encounter and uses this understanding to help students at iQ Academy receive the support they need to excel both academically and personally.

How iQ Academy is Making a Difference

Hispanic educators, like Juliette, play a critical role in creating a sense of belonging for Hispanic students at iQ Academy. The school serves a diverse student body, including students who are English Language learners.

Research shows that students who see themselves reflected in their teachers are more likely to feel connected to their education. For those who speak Spanish at home, having access to bilingual resources and Spanish-speaking teachers makes a significant difference. These educators bridge the language gap while offering valuable cultural insights that enrich the learning experience.

iQ Academy’s dedication to inclusivity and diversity is evident in the success of its students. In 2022, the school’s four- and five-year graduation rate increased to 81%, up from 70.8% in 2019. The school’s commitment to providing bilingual support ensures that Spanish-speaking students can thrive academically while maintaining a connection to their cultural roots.

By respecting and embracing different backgrounds, iQ Academy helps students develop a strong sense of identity and prepares them for success beyond the classroom.

Looking Forward

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, iQ Academy recognizes the significant contributions of Hispanic educators in shaping the future of education. Principal Juliette Pinzon’s story is just one example of the many Hispanic leaders who make a difference daily. Their dedication to creating a more inclusive, supportive, and culturally rich learning environment ensures that every student has the resources they need to succeed, regardless of their background.

At iQ Academy, the commitment to providing students with a well-rounded, diverse education is at the core of everything they do. As the school continues to celebrate the achievements of Hispanic students and educators, it embraces a future where all students feel empowered to reach their full potential.
