Jessica Smith is a dedicated mother of three iQ Academy Los Angeles (iQLA) students – Brody (8th grade), Emerie (2nd grade), and Ethan (1st grade). She is also a Student Support Specialist at iQLA. Her dual role bridges her personal experience and professional insight.

Driven by Personal Experience

Jessica’s journey into online education began with her son Brody, who has a heart condition. Traditional schooling made it difficult for him to keep up, but iQLA’s flexibility and 1:1 support changed that. “The ability for Brody to stay on track with his academics while managing his condition was a game-changer,” Jessica shares. Virtual learning allowed him to stay engaged without falling behind, and it gave their family the flexibility they needed.

Her personal experience as a Learning Coach for her three children gives her valuable insight into how iQLA’s individualized environment supports families, helping her offer advice to both teachers and parents.

Supporting Students from the Ground Up

As a Student Support Specialist, Jessica focuses on reading intervention for K-3 students. “I work with students one-on-one or in small groups every day,” she explains. Jessica also helped launch iQLA’s TK (Transitional Kindergarten) program, which teaches young students foundational skills and how to navigate the virtual classroom.

Jessica ensures students stay motivated using games and engaging activities. “The small group sessions let us individualize lessons and give students the flexibility to move around, keeping them focused,” she says. This personalized approach helps even the youngest students succeed in the virtual environment. She takes pride in making learning accessible and enjoyable for her students.

A Parent’s Perspective on iQLA’s Flexibility

Jessica’s children benefit from the engaging programs at iQLA, such as Minecraft Club and cooking classes. For Brody, the school’s flexibility and individualized support were crucial. “He gets the right amount of help, and the curriculum that works for him,” Jessica says.

Jessica also values iQLA’s logistical support for parents, from providing supplies to organizing monthly field trips for social interaction beyond the screen. “It’s not just structured, it’s fun,” she adds.

Encouragement for Families

Jessica advises families to try online schooling, emphasizing the flexibility, support, and engagement iQLA provides. “Your child can have fun while getting the academic attention they need,” she says.

Jessica’s experience as both a parent and educator highlights how iQLA’s flexible environment empowers students to succeed. She believes that with the right support, any student can thrive in this model, paving the way for a more adaptable and enriching future in education.
