Student Spotlight: How Annyaleese Rebuilt Her Confidence Through Online Learning
At just 14 years old, Annyaleese has already overcome more than most students her age. A ninth-grade student at iQ Academy, she’s thriving academically, building self-esteem, and planning for a future career in cosmetology. But just one year ago, her path looked very different.
From Struggling to Self-Assured
Before enrolling at iQ Academy, Annyaleese attended a brick-and-mortar school, where she experienced years of bullying and felt unsupported in her learning. Despite having an Individualized Education Program (IEP), she was given little academic help and began falling behind in every subject.
“Her old school just didn’t know how to support her,” said Brittnee, her guardian and Learning Coach. “She was failing every class and coming home feeling hopeless.”
Everything changed when they found iQ Academy. Brittnee researched the school thoroughly, asking questions every day before enrolling. The moment they joined, she says, they were met with a team that listened, supported, and acted quickly to give Annyaleese the tools she needed to succeed.
A Personalized Approach
The difference was immediate. With regular check-ins from her teachers and scheduling that allowed her to balance school with life at home, Annyaleese began to thrive. She passed all her classes, made the principal’s honor roll, and even discovered she was on track to graduate early.
“Just having that support was really all I needed,” Annyaleese said. “Now I actually enjoy school.”
Her mental health also dramatically improved. Once withdrawn and anxious, she now feels empowered to advocate for herself and ask for help when she needs it.
“She’s blossomed like a little flower,” Brittnee shared. “The kid you see now is nothing like the one who started eighth grade. She has confidence, friends, and she believes in herself.”
Learning That Fits Life
A typical day for Annyaleese starts with homeroom check-ins and academic support from her teachers. With fewer distractions and a quieter environment, she’s able to focus on her work, take breaks when needed, and finish school earlier in the day. That extra time gives her space to pursue her interests and help around the house.
“It’s easier for me now because I don’t have to worry about the bullying or feeling like I’m behind,” she said. “I can just focus on learning.”
Advice for Families Considering Online School
For other students who may be facing similar challenges, Annyaleese has a message: “Don’t give up. If you really want to do better, put in the effort, and you’ll get the support you need.”
Brittnee agrees and encourages parents to advocate for their children’s mental and emotional health: “iQLA didn’t just help her with school. They helped us understand what she needed to succeed. They gave us the right evaluations, the right people, and the right care. It’s been life changing.”
Looking Ahead
Annyaleese is now focused on finishing high school and pursuing cosmetology after graduation. With a strong support system and a personalized learning environment, she feels ready to take on whatever comes next.
