iQLA info session on demand

Watch Our Information Sessions Available On Demand

This month, IQ Academy California – Los Angeles (iQLA) hosted two engaging Information Sessions, one in English and one in Spanish, welcoming prospective families who are exploring a tuition‑free, online public school option for their students in grades TK–12. Each session featured a staff member and a Learning Coach as a guest speaker, offering a powerful and authentic perspective—not just as part of the iQLA community, but also as a parent of an iQLA student.

If you weren’t able to attend live, here are some key discussion points. If you are considering online school, we encourage you to watch the sessions on demand!

Highlights from Our Information Sessions

What Makes IQ Academy Los Angeles Unique

During both the English and Spanish sessions, families were introduced to what sets iQLA apart from other online learning options. iQLA is a tuition‑free, WASC‑accredited public school that combines the flexibility of online education with the structure, accountability, and support of fully California‑credentialed teachers.

Key highlights included:

  • Personalized learning tailored to each student’s needs
  • Dedicated teacher support and strong student‑teacher connections
  • Access to resources typically found in large schools, with the feel of a close‑knit community
  • An inclusive model that supports students with IEPs, 504 plans, English Learners, and different learning styles

College and Career Preparation That Starts Early

A major point of interest in both sessions was iQLA’s College and Career Preparation program, designed to help students explore future pathways long before graduation.

Families learned about high‑demand career pathways such as:

  • Arts, Media, & Entertainment
  • Business & Finance
  • Information & Communication Technologies

For eligible middle and high school students, Dual Enrollment opportunities allow students to earn high school and college credits at the same time, with courses taught by college professors. This program can give students a head start on both college and career goals.

Community, Clubs, and Socialization in an Online School

A common question from parents considering online learning is: Will my child still get to socialize? Both iQLA info sessions addressed this head‑on.

Families learned that iQLA offers a wide range of clubs, virtual activities, and in‑person outings designed to help students build friendships and stay engaged. From gaming and debate to art, leadership, coding, and engineering, there’s something for every interest. iQLA also hosts monthly outings across regions, giving students opportunities to connect face‑to‑face.

The Learning Coach guest shared firsthand how these opportunities helped their own children feel connected, confident, and part of a supportive school community.

The Role of the Learning Coach: A Parent’s Perspective

One of the most impactful parts of both sessions was hearing directly from a Learning Coach parent. She shared honest insights into what the role looks like day‑to‑day and why the partnership between families and iQLA is so important.

Learning Coaches help by:

  • Providing academic support, motivation, and guidance
  • Ensuring students attend live classes and stay on track with coursework
  • Communicating with teachers and staff as needed

Parents also learned about the Learning Coach Community, a private online space where caregivers can connect, share tips, ask questions, and support one another—something the guest Learning Coach described as invaluable.

How to Get Started with Enrollment

Each session closed with a walkthrough of the enrollment process, including required documents and important eligibility information. Families were reminded that iQLA serves students who reside in Los Angeles, Kern, Orange, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties, and that support is available throughout the process, including Spanish‑speaking enrollment agents.
